Where We Are Geographically

The Mad River Valley is located in Central Vermont. It is about 20 miles south west of Montpelier, the State Capital. The Mad River runs thru the middle of the valley and is reputedly called "Mad" because it runs south to north contrary to the direction of most rivers.

The Granville Gulf could be said to be the southerly boundary of the valley although we all travel south of that occasionally (if our name is sewn in our underwear). The gulf is a vast stretch of craggy outcroppings, forest, moose meadows, incredible flora and fauna, waterfalls and is a generally pristine spot to visit.

The northerly boundary is a little less clear. It could be Moretown, Duxbury, or maybe Fayston. The jury is still out on that one. But, clearly, Warren, Waitsfield and Fayston are a part of the valley.

On the west side the Green Mountains are king. Traversed by the Long Trail they provide hiking and wilderness experience for many summer and winter adventurers. The three ski areas: Sugarbush Resort including Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen and Mad River Glen (on Molly Stark Mountain) run south to north.

In the east side, the Northfield Range separates us from Roxbury and Northfield.
